Being a writer and storyteller has brought me a life filled with adventure and delight. I’ve traveled all over Canada and to distant countries. I’ve met so many interesting people with so much to teach me.
I started writing by chance, out of making up stories for my children. I’ve always written for young people although, as a storyteller, I perform for adults as well. I’m the author of picture books such as Very Last First Time and The Auction (both of them classics); folktale collections such as Rude Stories; novels such as The Silent Summer of Kyle McGinley.
Several of my books have had Governor General’s Award nominations. When Apples Grew Noses and White Horses Flew. Tales of Ti-Jean won the Forest of Reading Silver Birch Express Award in 2012. The Silent Summer of Kyle McGinley was awarded the Moonbeam Gold Medal.
I take great pleasure in meeting those who come to listen and am thrilled to have been invited to the Lakefield Literary Festival.
