Griffin prizewinner, Kamau Brathwaite, has called Pamela Mordecai “one of the most brilliant and witty of our poets”. In 2014, Tony Mitton in an article in The Guardian (UK) identified her “Caribbean Counting Poem” as one of the “top 10 children’s poems to remember and recite”. In 2015, Dundurn/TAP Books brought out her first novel, Red Jacket, which was shortlisted for the Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize, and Mawenzi House published her sixth collection of poetry, de book of Mary. Pamela has also published short fiction, textbooks, reference works, and occasional critical articles. Born and raised in Jamaica, she and her family immigrated to Canada in 1994. She lives with her husband, Martin, in Kitchener, Ontario.
