January 2021

Dear Teachers:

The Lakefield Literary Festival celebrates young voices in Canadian literature by sponsoring The Contest for Young Writers. The annual contest owes its success to the kind cooperation and enthusiastic support of high school teachers and talented young writers.

Posters announcing this year’s contest and copies of the rules are attached digitally. Please post them to your school web-site, social media and digital communications with students and parents. (TO AVOID DISQUALIFICATION, PLEASE ENSURE STUDENTS FOLLOW THE RULES.)

When schools reopen, you will also receive paper copies of the posters and rules. Please display the poster and rules for staff and students on department doors, school-wide bulletin boards, the library, and Guidance department. You may request extra copies if needed or make your own.

Participation in the contest provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop their writing skills, win prizes, and build confidence as writers. Considerable prestige is attached to winning the contest. Winners of each division and category will receive $200, a plaque, and publication in the festival’s Contest for Young Writers e-book.

The electronic mailbox for submissions is now open and ready to receive entries.

Entries must be submitted digitally as an attached word document with title page.
