Mission
In commemoration of Margaret Laurence, Catharine Parr Traill, Susanna Moodie and our community’s ongoing literary heritage, the Lakefield Literary Festival showcases Canadian authors and promotes the joy of reading and writing among children and adults.
Get Involved
The Lakefield Literary Festival would not be possibly without the assistance of many volunteers, sponsors and friends.
Volunteer positions vary in the demands on your time:
Small—helping collect tickets on event day
Medium—being an author attendant during Festival weekend
Large—being a Festival organizer.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact us.
Location
The Festival takes place at several venues in the town of Lakefield.
Authors
Our festival is curated by a program committee who invite the authors who will read, present and/or host each year. We do not have any opportunity for book sales beyond the books of authors who have been invited to do readings.
About our website photo
“Sunrise Cedars on the Otonabee River, Lakefield Trail”
This view through old cedars of ‘the river that flows both ways’, not far from the Lakefield home of Margaret Laurence, bids us be still, breathe deeply, and let the early morning mist-filtered light work its magic, bringing serenity, but also a sense of gentle melancholy as time, the seasons and the water slip quietly by.
